Description

The MTX80HDR is the largest, heaviest, and highest-impact rammer in Multiquip's current MTX-Series lineup. 3,505 lbf of impact force, an 11.2-inch shoe, 181 lbs of operating weight, and the high-output Honda GXR120 engine. Operators reach for it on jobs nothing smaller will close: deep-trench cohesive backfill, oversized embankment lifts, heavy-clay foundation prep, and high-volume site work where a smaller rammer would need to make a second or third pass.

That maximum-impact duty cycle has a direct consequence for the wood shoe: the MTX80HDR wears its shoe faster than any other MTX rammer. Higher impact force per blow, heavier machine pressing the shoe into the substrate, and longer continuous run times all compound. Operators on MTX80HDR units typically replace the shoe 30–40% more often than crews running an MTX70HD on comparable applications.

Multiquip part 8511S is the genuine OEM 11-inch wood shoe kit, factory-engineered for the impact loading the MTX80HDR generates.

The Operation Manual describes the foot construction as "laminated wood with tempered steel plate for superior shock absorption." That two-layer engineering matters most on the MTX80HDR — at 3,505 lbf, the impact transmitted through the shoe to the bellows and spring cylinder above must be progressively absorbed, not delivered as a sharp impulse. A factory-spec wood pad provides the absorption profile the rest of the rammer was designed to operate against.

Heavy-Duty Installation Notes

The MTX80HDR's higher impact loading means the shoe-mount bolt joint sees more peak stress per cycle than any other MTX model. Three points to watch on installation:

  • Use the supplied OEM hardware, not aftermarket bolts. The square-neck bolts in the 8511S kit are graded for the MTX80HDR's impact regime; substituting hardware-store bolts is the most common cause of premature loosening on this machine.
  • Re-torque after the first 30 minutes of operation, then again after 4 hours, then again at the 24-hour mark. After that, the joint will have settled.
  • Inspect the foot housing mating surface for impact damage from the failed shoe. On an MTX80HDR specifically, a worn shoe that's been run too long can score the housing — if you see scoring, address it before installing the new shoe to prevent recurring premature failure.

Frequently Asked Questions — MTX80HDR Wood Shoe

Q: How often should I replace the wood shoe on an MTX80HDR? For typical commercial use, every 4 to 9 months depending on substrate hardness and run-hours. Crews running MTX80HDR units on heavy-clay or rocky-fill applications wear shoes faster than crews working softer cohesive soils. Visual inspection daily — replace at first sign of cracking, lamination separation, or bolt-head mushrooming.

Q: Is the 8511S the same as the MTX70HD shoe kit? Yes — physically identical. Multiquip uses the 11-inch wood shoe across the entire MTX70/MTX80 platform (and MTX90 legacy). The same 8511S OEM kit fits MTX70HD, MTX70HDR, MTX70HF, and MTX80HDR. The shoe is shared even though the engines, weights, and impact forces differ.

Q: Does the higher impact force of the MTX80HDR damage shoes faster? Yes — proportional to impact loading. The MTX80HDR's 3,505 lbf delivers about 4.6% higher impact force than the MTX70HD's 3,350 lbf, but the heavier operating weight (181 lbs vs ~168 lbs) compounds the effect. In practice, MTX80HDR shoe replacement intervals run 30–40% shorter than MTX70HD intervals on the same job mix.

Q: Can I substitute an aftermarket 11-inch wood shoe? Aftermarket shoes from various Amazon and eBay suppliers are physically dimensioned to match the OEM 8511S, but tolerance accuracy, wood lamination grade, and bolt-hole alignment vary by manufacturer. For an MTX80HDR specifically, the higher impact loading punishes any tolerance slop in the shoe assembly — OEM is the lower-risk choice for fleet operators where downtime is the larger cost.

Important Ordering Notes

  • Make sure the part numbers are correct, certain parts are serial number specific. Confirm your MTX80HDR's serial plate matches the part designation before ordering.
  • Contact us for parts identification and confirmation of part numbers. Send [email protected] photos of your engine label, serial plate, and existing shoe assembly for verification.
  • Certain items may be drop shipped direct from the manufacturer. Your order may arrive in separate boxes — each with individual tracking.

Frequently asked questions

How do I use this diagram?

Match the Ref. # on the diagram to the row in the parts list at the right. Click a part name to see details, price, and add it to cart.

How do I make sure a part fits my machine?

Confirm your model/series and serial number range on the product page. Many
manufacturers have serial breaks, when in doubt, share your model and serial with us and we’ll verify fit.

What do the Ref. numbers and quantities mean?

The Ref. # points to the callout on the drawing. Qty shows how many of that item your machine uses. Parts are sold individually unless noted as a kit.

Are these genuine parts?

Yes, we supply genuine OEM parts for all our brands. If a part has an approved
replacement, we ship the latest superseded revision.

Why does my original part number look different?

Manufacturers often supersede numbers. Our pages list the current orderable number and show older numbers in the description when available. Your old number will cross-reference to the correct part.

I can’t find a part in this diagram, can you still get it?

Yes. Some items are not pictured or are shared with other assemblies. Send us the model, serial, and a description (or photo) and we’ll locate it.

Is there a warranty on these parts?

Yes. DanseUSA passes the manufacturer’s warranty to you. Coverage applies to defects in materials and workmanship under normal use for 30 days from the purchase date, in line with the manufacturer’s warranty policy. Terms can vary by brand; the product page reflects
the applicable policy. If a claim is needed, we’ll help coordinate with the manufacturer.

Do you accept returns?

Yes, most new, uninstalled items can be returned under our standard policy. Please see our Returns & Refunds Policy for eligibility, timeframes, and any exceptions.
