Northrock PRO 2HP 25L2 — OEM Parts & Repair Reference

The Northrock PRO 2HP 25L2 is the workhorse of the Northrock electric concrete vibrator line — a 2 HP, 115V, 15 A universal motor designed for contractors who run the same power unit across residential slabs in the morning and rebar-dense wall pours in the afternoon. Unlike the smaller PRO 1.5HP, the 25L2 drives the full Northrock head range up to 2-1/2" diameter. Unlike the heavier PRO 3HP, it still runs on a standard 15 A circuit.

This page is the complete parts reference for the 25L2. Use the diagram below to find the exact Ref # on your motor, then click through to order the matching OEM component. All part numbers are pulled from the official Northrock service documentation.

DanseUSA is an authorized Northrock dealer. In-stock orders placed before 12 PM ET ship the same business day. For part identification support, email [email protected] or call +1 (202) 630-1027.

Diagnose Before You Order

The most expensive mistake on a 25L2 is replacing the wrong component. If your motor won't run, runs weakly, or runs hot, work through this decision tree before ordering anything larger than a consumable:

Symptom Check First Likely Part P/N
Motor won't start Cord, plug, switch Grounded Cord / Electric Switch 505A1 / 425B1
Weak power, visible sparking at commutator Brush length & commutator Carbon Brush (pair) 490A1
Grinding or squealing sound Bearings Ball Bearing (pair) 140C300
Motor runs then shuts off (thermal cutout) Air filter, airflow path Air Filter 470A1
Smoke or burnt smell from housing Armature or field windings Armature or Field Coil 475A1 / 480A1
Water in switch body Switch seal integrity Switch + Seal (as pair) 425B1 + 430A1
Moisture at cord entry Strain relief Water-Tight Strain Relief 435A1

Rule of thumb: before condemning an armature (475A1) or field coil (480A1) — the most expensive parts on the motor — replace the brushes and inspect the commutator. A set of worn brushes produces identical symptoms to a failing armature, and the brush pair costs a fraction of the price.

Field Service Procedures

Replacing carbon brushes (Ref #8, P/N 490A1)

Carbon brushes are the single most common failure point on any brush-and-commutator motor, including the 25L2. They wear continuously during operation and, when worn below usable length, begin to lose contact with the commutator — causing sparking, weak output, and eventually a burnt commutator that requires armature replacement.

Procedure: Disconnect power. Unscrew the outer protective cap (400C1) on each side of the motor. Remove the inner brush cap (500A1). Pull each brush and inspect — brushes under 1/4" of remaining carbon must be replaced. Install fresh brushes as a matched pair and reinstall caps finger-tight plus an eighth-turn. Never mix old and new brushes — uneven wear causes commutator pitting within hours.

Replacing ball bearings (Ref #5, P/N 140C300)

The 25L2 uses two sealed ball bearings — one on each end of the armature. Bearings fail from two root causes: concrete dust infiltration past a damaged filter or housing seal, or a dry flexible shaft core that back-drives rotational drag into the motor. Symptoms range from a subtle squeal at startup to loud grinding under load.

Procedure: Both bearings get replaced together. Before restoring the motor to service, inspect the flexible shaft core and apply 1/16" of lithium grease — a dry core will destroy brand-new bearings in under 50 operating hours.

Electrical path repairs (Ref #11, #12, #14, #15)

The 25L2's electrical path from the plug to the windings runs through four serviceable components: the grounded cord (505A1), the strain relief (435A1) where the cord enters the housing, the electric switch (425B1), and the water-resistant seal (430A1) that keeps moisture out of the switch cavity. When any one of these four fails, replace it along with its mating seal or connector. Skipping the seal turns a $10 fix into a $300 burnt-winding replacement the next time the motor hits a wet pour.

Air filter maintenance (Ref #17, P/N 470A1)

The filter is what stands between airborne concrete dust and the armature commutator. Inspect every 40 operating hours. Replace when the pleats are packed gray with dust. Operating without the filter — even briefly — drops bearing and brush life by an order of magnitude.

Critical — do not cross-swap motor sizes

The three Northrock motors (PRO 1.5HP, 2HP, 3HP) look mechanically similar and share many common parts, but the armature and field coil are electrically matched to each motor's power rating. A 1.5 HP armature (475B1) in a 2 HP housing will stall under load. A 3 HP armature (475C1) in a 2 HP housing will burn the field coil. Always verify the Ref #3 armature P/N as 475A1 and the Ref #4 field P/N as 480A1 for a 25L2.

Preventive Maintenance Calendar

Interval Task
Start of every shift Visual cord, plug, switch, housing inspection. Clear dust from air intake.
Every 40 operating hours Clean or replace air filter (470A1).
Every 50 operating hours Pull flex shaft core. Inspect for dry zones. Re-grease with lithium grease (1/16" coat).
Every 200 operating hours Inspect brush length via commutator service port (400B1). Replace pair if any brush is under 1/4".
Every 500 operating hours Inspect commutator for glazing, pitting, or deep grooves. Light glaze is acceptable.
Annually (heavy-use fleets) Replace both ball bearings (140C300) as preventive maintenance.

Extension Cord Sizing for 15 A Continuous Draw

Cord length Minimum AWG Notes
0–25 ft 14 AWG Minimum for short runs
26–50 ft 12 AWG Standard for most jobsite setups
51–100 ft Not recommended Use closer power source instead

Cords for outdoor jobsite use must carry the W-A suffix (e.g., SOW-A) — this is the UL designation for water-resistant, abuse-rated cordage. Always use 3-conductor grounded cord with a matching 3-prong outlet. GFCI protection is required in any damp environment.

Why cord gauge matters: the 25L2 draws 15 A under load. An undersized cord introduces voltage drop, and the motor compensates by drawing even more current — which directly accelerates wear on brushes, armature windings, and the field coil. Running a 25L2 on a light-duty household extension cord is the fastest way to destroy an otherwise healthy motor.

Shaft & Vibrator Head Compatibility

Compatible head sizes (all 7 Northrock diameters)

The PRO 2HP drives the full Northrock head lineup without torque limitation:

  • 3/4" and 1" — pencil-shaft territory, for tight columns and rebar-dense walls
  • 1-1/4", 1-1/2" — general slab and footing work
  • 1-3/4", 2" — heavier structural and wall pours
  • 2-1/2" — mass pours, foundations, precast

Shaft length options

Standard-duty shafts are stiffer and provide better mechanical control when poking the head into stiff concrete. Pencil shafts offer more flexibility and are paired with 3/4" or 1-1/4" heads for navigating tight reinforcement cages. Northrock offers single shafts from 2 ft through 21 ft; longer reaches up to 60 ft are achieved with a shaft connector.

Cross-brand adapter reference

The 25L2 countershaft is designed to accept shafts and heads from virtually every major concrete vibrator manufacturer when fitted with the correct core adapter (Ref #21, 160-series) and casing adapter (Ref #22, 150-series):
