About the PRO 3+ (25L3 / 25L3QD)

The Northrock PRO 3+ is a 3 HP, 115V, 19 A electric concrete consolidator motor built for the busy contractor and tough rental applications. It drives vibrator heads up to 2-1/2" diameter and is the correct motor for column vibration, slab consolidation, footings and forms, structural walls, precast production, and low-slump mixes. The 25L3 is the standard model; the 25L3QD adds a quick-disconnect coupling for fast shaft swaps — ideal for rental fleets and multi-head jobs.

  • High-strength cast aluminum housing dissipates heat during continuous-duty operation
  • Shock-absorbing frame doubles as a carry handle and protects the switch from impact
  • Watertight, strain-relief power cord with frame-protected switch
  • Compatible with Northrock flex shafts (2, 5, 7, 10, 12, 14, 16, 21 ft) and all seven Northrock head sizes (3/4" through 2-1/2")
  • Heads are factory-sealed, oil-bath lubricated with four lifetime ball bearings, permanent seal, and alloy steel housing — maintenance-free
  • Interchangeable with shafts and heads from Wacker, Wyco, Oztec, Stow, Stone, Multiquip, Mikasa, and more (with correct adapter)

How to Use the Diagram

Match the Ref # on the exploded view to the row in the parts list. Click the callout → product page → add to cart. Always replace wear parts (brushes, bearings, seals) in pairs.

Most Commonly Replaced Parts on the PRO 3+ (25L3)

About 80% of PRO 3+ service issues come down to these six parts. The PRO 3+ runs at higher amp draw than the PRO 1.5+ and PRO 2+, so brushes and bearings wear faster under continuous-duty loads — diagnose in this order before replacing anything larger:

Ref # Part P/N Typical Life Symptom
21 Carbon Brush (pair) 490A1 150–350 hrs Weak under load, heavy sparking, burn smell
32 Air Filter 470B1 40 hrs Motor runs hot, thermal cutout
8 Ball Bearing (pair) 140C300 400–1,200 hrs Grinding, squealing, shaft wobble
19 Power Cord 505J1 As needed Nicks, cracked strain relief, bad plug
28 Electric Switch 425B1 As needed Mushy, sticks, won't toggle cleanly
31 Switch Seal 430A1 Replace with switch Water intrusion, visible wear

Repair Tips

Brush replacement (Ref #21, P/N 490A1)

Unplug cord. Remove outer brush cap (400C1) and brush cap (500A1). Pull old brush. If carbon is under 1/4" or cracked, replace both brushes as a pair. Check commutator for glazing — light glaze is OK, grooves or pits mean the armature needs service. The PRO 3+ wears brushes faster than the smaller motors due to higher amp draw; check every 150 hours on continuous-duty applications. Reinstall caps finger-tight plus 1/8 turn.

Bearing replacement (Ref #8, P/N 140C300)

Two sealed bearings, one each end of the armature. Always replace as a pair. Before running the motor again, pull the flex shaft core and check lubrication — a dry core cooks new bearings within 50 hours, and the PRO 3+ is often run with long 21 ft or connected shafts that consume more driveline power. Apply a 1/16" coat of lithium grease to the core; do not over-grease.

Model-specific parts — do not cross-swap

The PRO 3+ has more unique parts than the 1.5+ or 2+. The armature (475C1), field coil (480C1), end bell (420D1), motor housing (105AG1), frame assembly (440D1), baffle filter (470F1), air filter (470B1), air filter cover (215X1), power cord (505J1), and screw 190E140 are all 3 HP specific. The PRO 1.5+ uses 475B1 / 480B1 and the PRO 2+ uses 475A1 / 480A1. Verify every part number against your motor before ordering — a 2 HP armature will not fit a 3 HP motor.

Power cord replacement (Ref #19, P/N 505J1)

Do not tape damaged cords. Replace any cord with nicks, cracked strain relief, or plug damage. The 505J1 is the heavier-gauge cord required for the PRO 3+ and carries a 20A plug. Do not substitute the lighter 505H1 cord from the PRO 1.5+ or PRO 2+ — it will overheat under the 19A load.

Switch + seal (Ref #28, #31)

Always replace the switch (425B1) and the water-resistant seal (430A1) together. A compromised seal lets water into the switch cavity and shorts the motor.

Air filter service (Ref #32, P/N 470B1)

Inspect every 40 hours. Replace when gray with embedded concrete dust. Never run the motor without the filter installed. The PRO 3+ uses a larger filter (470B1) than the PRO 1.5+ and PRO 2+ (470A1) because the 3 HP motor needs more cooling airflow for continuous-duty operation. Do not substitute the smaller 470A1.

Maintenance Schedule

  • Every shift: Inspect cord, plug, switch, housing. Clean concrete dust off exterior.
  • Every 40 hrs: Clean or replace air filter.
  • Every 50 hrs: Pull flex shaft core, inspect, re-grease with lithium grease (1/16" coat max).
  • Every 150 hrs (continuous duty) or 200 hrs (intermittent): Check brush length through service port. Replace pair if worn.
  • Every 500 hrs: Inspect commutator for glazing or grooving.
  • Annually (heavy use): Replace ball bearings.

Electrical Requirements (19 A draw)

The PRO 3+ requires a 20A circuit with a NEMA 5-20R T-slot receptacle — it will not run on a standard 15A household outlet. If using a generator, size above 2,500 running watts with a 20A outlet.

Extension Cord Sizing

Cord length Minimum AWG
0–25 ft 12 AWG
26–50 ft 10 AWG
51–100 ft Not recommended

Outdoor cords must be marked W-A (e.g. SOW-A). 3-conductor grounded only. Use a GFCI in damp conditions. Undersized cords are the #1 cause of burned PRO 3+ motors — voltage drop at 19A forces the motor to draw even more current to maintain RPM, which cooks brushes, armature windings, and the field coil. Never run the PRO 3+ on a 14 AWG cord.

Shaft & Head Compatibility

Head diameter range

The PRO 3+ is rated for the full Northrock head range — 3/4" through 2-1/2". Seven approved head sizes: 3/4", 1", 1-1/4", 1-1/2", 1-3/4", 2", and 2-1/2". Unlike the PRO 2+, the PRO 3+ holds rated vibration frequency (~10,000 VPM) on the largest heads under heavy load — making it the correct motor for low-slump mixes, precast plants, and continuous-duty production where a 2 HP motor would bog down and overheat.

Head construction (maintenance-free)

Northrock vibrator heads feature four high-performance lifetime ball bearings, an oil-bath lubrication system with permanent seal, and an alloy steel housing that resists wear. The scientifically-designed eccentric maximizes amplitude while the permanent seal keeps oil in and contaminants out. No field maintenance required on heads — replace the entire head when the bearings finally fail. Heads are interchangeable with all major brands on the market when paired with the correct adapter.

Shaft options

Northrock flexible shafts are available in standard-duty (stiffer for better poking ability) and pencil shaft (more flexible for tight rebar-congested pours) configurations. Eight single lengths: 2', 5', 7', 10', 12', 14', 16', and 21'. Maximum reach up to 60 ft using a Northrock shaft connector. The PRO 3+ is the recommended motor for any job requiring connected shafts beyond 30 ft — the extra torque prevents driveline sag on long reaches.

Quick-disconnect shafts (25L3QD)

If you're running the 25L3QD, use Northrock quick-disconnect compatible shafts such as the 25N7 (7 ft), 25N14 (14 ft), and other QD-compatible lengths. These shafts feature rubber-coated steel braiding to resist stretching and a hardened steel inner liner as the bearing surface for the greased core. Each assembly includes both the shaft casing and a pre-greased core.
